Community Groups
The Godhead, as the Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is in perfect relationship with one another. Created in the image of God, we are made for community and connection too. As a church community we have an incredible opportunity to reflect the Trinity in our relationships. We need to understand how precious community is to God's heart and also how important it is for the church's health and mission. We believe the best way to build community is through groups, weekly small groups that meet geographically around Harford and Baltimore Counties.
Why Community Groups?
The gospel creates a New Community. A Central theme which runs throughout the Bible is that God is creating a people who belong to Him. In both the Old Testament and the New Testament, the work of God is the calling of a people. He is not merely saving individuals; He is building a new community in which He is the central participant. He is forming a new society out of the ashes of a fallen and rebellious human race. The development of a community lies at the heart of God’s covenant promises: “I will be your God and you will be my people.” The church must take the call to be a new community with the utmost seriousness (Matthew 5:14; Romans 12:12; 1 Corinthians 12; 1 Corinthians 3:9; 1 Peter 2:5).
What is a community group?
Community groups are where we go beyond simply attending church, to "being the church." Our vision is to be a family of learners, servants, and missionaries. A community group is a small group where Christian community is primarily developed, where Jesus Christ is experienced in His presence and power and where lives are transformed by the gospel through mutual ministry. In each community group there are specific balanced elements that are organically experienced:
- Worship- We spend time thanking and praise God.
- Bible Study- We interact on the passage and sermon from the previous Sunday.
- Sharing- We talk about what's going on in our lives- good and bad.
- Prayer- We call out to God for his presence and provision in our lives and relationships.
- Missions- We pursue the mission of serving and sharing the gospel with others as a group.
